You may have noticed some of this when following the directions in Section 3 of the MCP Express Getting Started Guide under the heading "Setting the MCP Host Name." The reason for the weirdness is historical, so I will start with a review of that history. Configuring the MCP environment to work with an external network is the subject of this post.Īs we will see, configuring TCP/IP for the MCP is quite a bit different than it is on most other systems. The MCP is able to communicate via TCP/IP internally with the local Windows environment and vice versa, but it is not yet capable of communicating on an external TCP/IP network. Thus far in this series on MCP Express, we have been setting up and using the MCP environment in an isolated mode.
